Tree Rubbings...

I have decided that on my way home through Hyde Park I would do some tree rubbings. As a result I went on google to see if the were an tips or tricks to getting a good rubbing and whilst I was searching I found this beautiful rubbing by Bryan Nash Gill.

It is so simple, organic and striking. It does not need colour or anything else as I feel this would detract from the piece. I would love to experiment with this idea however I am unsure how I would go about it?! I will go down to Vernon Street on Monday and see if they have an ideas or suggestions. I could also develop an etching plate, or linocut the pattern out.

Below is an extract taken from www.ashesandmilk.com/blog/studio-spaces/bryan-nash-gill about how Gills produces his work...

"Through relief printing and a laborious rubbing technique Byran created the above piece Hemlock 82 (Bryan literally scratched his fingernails over every surface of the tree). At the grand size of 52″ long x 38.5″ wide the actual diameter, texture and pattern of this tree section is gorgeously translated onto paper."
