vsop cognac

I found this piece of design at global packaging gallery. It again has the 3 colours that I want to use; black, white and gold. It also uses the ribbon shape in an interesting and modern way. Perhaps I should be trying to create something with a modern twist?

So far everything I look at seems to be quite simple - is this the design direction I want to go in for my old wives' tale brief?
